if not for tty, i think i would have almost forgotten that i am one of the co-authors of this blog.... i didnt even touch my own blog for 'eons'... issit because i am lazy? maybe... or rather i prefer to pen down my thoughts and package them in the form of stories, which's why i love novelling...

oh well, exams are nearing like next tuesday den 2 weeks later, it will be the 3 mths long hols... phew finally a well-deserved break after 2 crazy sems for this entire academic year.. so what am i going to do in the hols.... of course to continue my novel which has a very big significance.. i actually aimed to complete it b4 i go to beijing... but looks like now i cant reach that goal already.... still at least have it completed before tty comes back here hahaah... its already like 250 plus pages and its like only 1/3 (maybe not even)...sheesh this story is sure gonna be long... but no choice, i got 3 main characters in the book.... so buddies, pls be patient

anyway just to talk abt my future.... i am quite disappointed with the medical sector locally... especially tcm... its not going to progress any further even the news have been reporting that the government is now putting alot of emphasis on it... why do i say so?

firstly, singaporeans treat tcm as an alternative medicine... not like china where tcm is integrated with western med, so both are of equal importance and status... and the doctors over there are really fantastic.. they are equipped with knowledge from both sides and can interchange the types of treatment, be it western med or tcm, they want to employ, like u go visit a doctor because of migraine... and after making a diagnosis of ur problem, he can decide whether to prescribe u chinese herbs or western med drugs based on ur condition... see? so cool... u think u can do that in singapore? fat hope

secondly, i have been going for interns on sats at thong chai medical institute and i realised alot of the local physicians there are, sorry to say, not up to standard... in fact quite lousy to put it bluntly.. some of them are working part time... which means during the weekdays, they have other occupations which are not related to tcm at all, its only on weekends do they come here and treat patients.. so u see? because of this, some of them have this mindset that they are here for some extra income, not because they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to help make pples lives better... so naturally i dun see the effort put in... like for tongue diagnosis where patients are required to stick out their tongue to let the physician examine... my gosh, there are some of the patients whose tongue are obviously layered yellow yet the physician can just tell me its white without even taking a second look!!! there is other physician whose patients have all the same tongue and pulse diagnosis recorded.. simi lan jiao... i am sure all the same huh.... and worse still, her prescriptions are almost the same despite the difference in the problems of the patients... just add abit here, subtract abit there and tada... great

thirdly, i heard that singapore has been banning imports of chinese herbs/medicine that has been scientifically proven to aid in curing major diseases, e.g 丹参+川芎 have active ingredients that work well on coronary heart diseases....and they do not allow manufacturers to claim that they can cure diseases, but only make it sound like its a health supplement... why? simple cos they want to protect the western medical sector... look at this.... how is tcm going to progress? no way... and the western medical sector too.... if they are going to continue ocstracising tcm and not try to accept and work along with, they will also soon reach a plateu.....

talking abt this.... this reminded me of a local physician who happens to be one of the very few good ones... he too agreed that the local medical scene is not going to go far if tcm and western med are going to continue in their own separate ways... he explained that western med is entirely scientifically-based... anything that is not scientifically proven will not be considered for clinical usage.. this is rather unfortunate for tcm has a lot of concepts and theories that are could not be proven yet... BUT.... so what if its not scientific??? as long as the treatment really works and benefits the patients, i dun see any problem in using it... just like for accupuncture, till now how it really works is still not known, but it has benefited many for over 5000 years since the ancient times... this physician has exactly the same sentiments as me, he said: "regardless is it a black or white cat, the one that is able to catch the rat is a good cat..." :) good one.... so who cares if it has been scientifically proven or not... if it works, MEANS IT WORKS!!!
yes of course its not wrong to prove the science behind these treatments, but please for christ sake at least first implement it as part of mainstream medical treatment... patients dun have the longeivity to wait for u pple to take 100 years to scientifically prove it....

so i have thought abt it.... at the end of the course, most likely i will be furthering my studies all the way to PhD... cos i want to be a professional tcm doctor, not those half-past six ones in thong chai... i really want to help pple who are plagued with illness.. i feel a sense of satisfaction and happiness when i see patients recovering in smiles from my treatment...

since singapore's tcm is not going to work out, i think i will be going either to australia or germany to work... especially the latter, tcm is being very very well-received over there... the thirst for aisan tcm physicians is great.... its good also cos i can have a change of environment...
oh well, all these aside, what i need to do now is concentrate for the exams..... things may change along the way too...
