Pearls before swine 3

a difficult game, if u do not realise tt solving such a problem requires e use of binary and an understanding of nim.. to understand how to solve such problems, u can try reading Games and Representations and Game Theory.. i personally found e 2nd link more useful.. not tt i read both papers in detail.. just browsed through them.. and well, u dun strictly need to know wat nim is as long as u can find e solution from e 2 links tt i gave.. and ya.. e game starts to get boring after u get e hang of it.. i played till lvl 17 when i browser hanged on me.. one of e forums tt i read says tt everything repeats after lvl 31..

apparently, chung cheng tried to come up with some motivational posters for e juniors back there.. not sure whether it was some selection bias on the part of lynn (the pics below came from her facebook photo album).. it seemed like e majority of e ppl featured were from my batch of '01 and were people whom i personally knew.. anyway, i sidetracked quite some bit while searching for some stuff.. and guess wat i found? listen to 中正校歌 online! O.o and rather disappointingly, i couldn't manage to find those for cedar pri and TJ.. there wasn't even e school song lyrics for TJ.. -.-'''

yet another sidetrack note.. just realised, again, tt cedar pri doesn't have a wikipedia entry of its own.. wonder if i could kickstart it during e dec holidays.. foresee tt i would be needing a lot of help though, if i really get down to doing it.. also chanced upon (or rather, i went to find) e cedar pri young wing alumni webpage.. there was this page tt talked about how ex-cedarians could contribute back to e school.. and i actually gave some thought abt it.. i guess there comes a period of time when one would start wondering abt giving back to society, or more specifically, giving back to his alma mater.. well of course all there is now is no action talk only..

not sure if i mentioned here before, but cedar pri underwent some extreme makeover few years back and judging from e pictures tt i saw, nothing from e old cedar tt i knew managed to survive e makeover.. and coincidentally, i'm currently listening to my cedarian senior singing from my chinese jukebox.. haha.. kk.. i noe u noe who i'm talking abt.. and just so happens tt it's one of my favorite songs too.. lol..

knew him since pri school, but somehow parted ways (not in e bad sense) when we went into different streams.. him into art and me into science.. bumped into him at NTU S4 just last week and it somewhat slipped my mind to ask him abt e progress of his band's latest album..



not exactly a v close acquaintance.. last heard tt he gained some experience working at a local chinese FM radio station.. and seriously, i cant stand it but to comment again tt e poster design sux.. couldn't read abt kenneth's achievements from e poster.. geez..

and actually, there's another poster of this guy who managed to grab some pretty impressive achievements.. but i thought he wasn't impressive enough in his character for me to post his pic here.. so there goes.. e end of this post..

had a lucid dream yesterday nite.. was trying out this technique to keep myself lucid longer by focusing and alternating my attention amongst e dream constructs' faces.. quite amazing how real their faces look when i did tt.. anyway tt wasn't e main point.. e main point is tt i think my dream constucts are erm.. getting more rebellious.. -.- was trying to freeze time again by snapping my fingers, but somehow e snapping sound was quite muted and things didn't work out e way it was supposed to.. so after quite a number of tries (i was rather persistent), i tried changing to clapping my hands instead.. but haiz.. e same results..

and during the whole process e dream constructs were like showing the oh-no-not-again-he's-gonna-freeze-e-time look.. they probably even said it out loud (just tt i couldn't remember if they really did tt).. darn.. -.- they sure are getting rebellious in e recent lucid dreams tt i had.. maybe i should just try KO-ing them by wacking on their heads with a stick or scream at them to ask them to follow my instuctions.. lol..

ahhh!!! i think the kennedy choir really made some nice covers of some of the most famous beatles songs (check out my english jukebox).. and e lead female singer really sounds nice!!! ahhh!!! ok.. i'm starting to act like tty.. lol.. anyway this other choir also did a decent cover of hey jude: Nomonas-Hey Jude-Choral Beatles

this leads to an interesting revelation for me.. tt SG is quite e odd ball out, being e other chinese-majority country tt's far flung from e chinese native land of china (together with e other chinese-majority country of taiwan).. i don't think there's another chinese-majority country in e world besides these 3 rite? tt's not to include hk and macau..

anyway, among e nostalgic items tt i found were my pri school chinese booklet of good phrases to use, gunung rabong packing list, sec 3? bio tutor's (ms sia?) wedding invitation, ncc treasurer related items, inter-class debate apeaker notes (quite unbelievable tt i still kept those), chinese newspaper article for our 'o' level batch results, straits times forum letter sent in by yixiang, me and i-forgot-who, chinese essays throughout my sec school (didn't noe my chinese essays were so lousy), CCHS times, TJ times, sec 3? script for a musical performed by me, kian pok, jiun han, brandon and tty (maybe i can type e script here when i'm free), batik cloth tt i dyed for some arts lesson, JLPT application guide, y-i-should-go-to-cchs promotional notes (O.o), SAT related materials (curse e constant change of SAT requirements for uni back then), JC project work stuff (together with my speaker notes!), music scores/lyrics from our friendly cchs music teacher, cchs graduation songs' lyrics.. truly a walk down memory lane..

this is a favourite question of mine.. and yup, it's solvable.. u might actually want to write it down to see e question more properly.. this linear way of expressing e question may not be tt clear..

Just realised tt question 2 was not well constructed as there are 2 solutions for it.. hopefully i've constucted problem 9 carefully enough such tt there is only 1 solution..

hmmm.. was at my cousin's place last sat for mooncake festivities and was browsing along her shelf of books when i picked up this book on primary school maths olympiad 2000 problems and solutions.. was quite fun going through e questions and kinda missing e days when i used to represent my school in it.. there was actually 1 particular question which i had only just managed to solve.. and i was like -.-''' y didn't i see it..

anyway, was kinda surprised to be reminded tt cher hao had won e 8th position, individual category for the '97 olympiad.. quite an achievement.. well, maybe since i'm sorta free now, i'll just start working on transferring my dream posts..

Comments: this set of lyrics was actually finished yesterday before i went to school, all in a span of 30 minutes.. suddenly had a melody in my head and wanted to fill it in with some lyrics.. but apparently it was only enough to last me for stanza 1.. considering tt it was completed in such a incredulously short time, i think it's probably a ok-ly done one.. pretty much like 相思豆女孩, there wasn't any real inspiration for this particular set of lyrics.. on a sidenote, i might just come up with lyrics in e future tt talks about all e different kinda break up scenes.. :p

just a quick post.. had updated some of my earlier posts.. considered tt i didn't have time to finish up my previous NDP post on e issue of emigration.. or rather i don't feel like it.. -.- cos i think to put forth a good argument, or at least a decent one, would require research of which i have no time..

anyway to put it in a nutshell, having travelled to a couple of countries with a rather decent duration in each (at least 1 week? lol), i think singapore is really still the best place to be.. listening to e arguments brought forth by ppl who have contemplated e thought of emigration, i realise tt sometimes they have yet to consider e entirety of factors tt are important.. like security (military or job), presence of natural disasters, tax system, estate issues, native citizens vs 2nd tier citizens (think PR), cultural differences, language differences, cost of living, quality of living, healthcare system, education system, freedom of expression, pension/CPF.. just to name a few.. quite often, only a few of these factors come into play as push factors, without consideration given to e other factors..

had my 304 presentation today.. disappointing would probably sum it up.. seemed tt my part had lacked quite some bit of substance..

well, i think i should start talking about something more uplifting.. lol.. tty and emu were commenting e other time tt my posts were sorta pessimistic.. so let's talk about my all time favourite topic: dreams!

think my lazyness (going back to sleep after a natural waking) has probably cost me to have an uncertain impression of e stuff tt i have dreamt about some days back.. and tt's not really good, considering tt i think i've conducted some important stuff in it.. as a background, there are certain things which lucid dreamers often look out for in their dreams to signal to them tt they are dreaming (these things are called dream signals, if i'm not wrong.. :p) some of these include:

1.yr hands look distorted, twisted.. basically they look weird
2.e clock face looks weird or e time on e clock didn't make sense
3.e light switch won't work

so in e dream tt i was talking about, i think i've done e normalization of 1. ie. to make my hands appear normal instead of weird.. i am less confident however, tt i successfully did e normalization for 2. i think i attempted, but failed.. haiz.. i guess tt would just mean tt i have to try them again in my next dream..

i would think tt e normalization of 3. would be pretty hard to perform.. considering tt i don't remember having experienced darkness/dim lighting conditions in my dreams before.. it'll probably be in e league of e dream dream in it's difficulty level (i hope i'm exaggerating though.. requiring 4 yrs to execute a stunt is not exactly fun)..

just yesterday e conditions were very good for me to take control of my dream but fate was to have my hp alarm wake me up.. darn.. -.-

ok.. so this is probably one of the rare occasions where my sticky post gets displaced during school term.. also one where i start on a new post before e previous one gets finished.. anyway, quite busy at e moment.. studying.. -.- so watch out for this space on e mini celebratation activities tt's coming up for this special event.. lol..

so one of e things tt i've had in store was to resurrect my other blog.. ok.. i hear e *gasp!* haha.. wouldn't be surprising tt no one remembered it.. e intention of e blog however has been changed slightly.. it'll be used as a personal dream log, where i'll be noting down e various dreams, lucid and non-lucid, tt i have.. due to e sensitivities of my dream contents and my personal preferences, i have opted to keep this second blog strictly a personnal affair..

nevertheless, e usual dream posts on this blog will still continue.. e 2nd blog will incorporate more technical terms, have dedicated links to lucid dream resources and in general, provide a greater level of detail on e dream contents.. it'll also serve as a base for me to research more scientifically into e study of dream control and provide the resources tt i neeed for a personal project tt i have had in e pipeline for a while now..

update 1: created a 3rd blog for testing purposes and in preparation for my HP320 project..

update 2: i've tentatively decided to open up my dream log blog, albeit to a certain extent.. if e trend of e current dreams are anything to go by, a rather significant portion of my dreams will remain as drafts in my dashboard for personal viewing.. anyway, i've yet to open up tt blog, so to say, as i plan to do so only after i've transferred e dream related posts here over.. and afterwhich i will start on logging my dreams..

really fishy.. haha.. 1st it was qq.. den yw.. and now sw.. wonder y e sudden interest in setting up blogs.. just hope tt they not e spur of e moment, doesn't last a year kind..

this august has been quite an exciting one.. there was my sis's b'dae.. den e start of school (well erm.. i guess tt's exciting too..).. olympics followed soon after.. and e very next day was national day.. not too long later in e month, it'll be a special day for this very place itself.. e day tt marks 5 years of blogging.. will perhaps will do a simple write up when e day gets closer..

e main topic for this post actually has to do with e national day tt recently passed by and e meeting up with lei^3, yichao, chuan seng and mel.. cs was grumbling on having to stay in singapore and mel and yichao agreed tt they didn't want to stay in singapore and wanted to leave for greener pastures.. heh.. is it really greener on e other side? tt's a question tt i've wondered abt for a couple of times..

so PA's over.. and school's already in e 1st week.. been bumping around during e 2 weeks break after e internship.. haha.. tt was before i caught on to facebook.. finally.. -.- anyway like i said earlier, such social networks really are eye openers for me at times.. to see how my fellow friends have changed over the years.. hopefully for e better.. lol..

many of e their looks have changed quite some bit.. esp e girls.. good to know that all of them are still doing well.. esp for those whom i have no prior contact via msn or friendster..

e interns had organised a karoke session during e last week of e internship and it was actually a much better experience than i thought.. well at least they were not shy abt singing in front of 10 other ppl.. and their singing were quite good too.. and erm quite unexpectedly, someone said my singing of 你怎麼捨得我難過 together with benjamin (yeah e one from my marketing class) was actually quite nice.. lolol.. tt's a first for me.. anyway i think i sing better w/o e karoke.. maybe it's cos i dun stick to e pace of e songs v well.. haha..

have been listening to a couple of youtube vids lately.. in particular those by 鄧麗君.. realised tt she can actually sing in quite a number of different languages such as jap, chinese, english and bahasa melayu.. and she sings them well too.. her english songs are so-so if u were to compare her with e original singers.. but i found tt her cover of I've Never Been to Me to be quite good..

anyway, i've been trying to learn to sing 3 of her more popular jap songs like 空港, つぐない / 偿还 and 愛人.. e latter is particularly e easiest to sing amongst e 3 and yup, trying to sing without looking at e romanji.. haha.. and tt's even though like i've yet to really master Only Human - K and Konayuki - Remioromen ..

and oh ya.. had actually forgotten abt e vid in e post below.. lol.. a really nice song too.. great vocals by a young kid.. there's actually quite a few good children singers out there.. or talents.. such as Yoo Ye-eun who paired up with Connie Talbot (of e Britain's Got Talent fame) for e song You Raise Me Up..

had to blog about this.. haha.. i'm finally on facebook!!! -.- first impression was tt it was much better than friendster.. save for e fact tt friend searches weren't as good.. not as much details were given and e thumbnail is seriously too small for me to see if e person in e thumbnail is really someone i noe.. one thing tt perhaps i wanna mention about is e applications.. i think most of e people i noe have seriously lots of applications on their pages and i wonder just how many of those they really use..

anyway, e thing tt i really wanna blog about is this forum tt i found while searching for e presence of oneironaut groups on facebook.. seemed like there were no asians in both e facebook group tt i found and in e forum.. but tt's not e main point.. i had just discovered tt there are actually quite a number of oneironauts out there, or ppl who aspire to be one.. and oh ya.. just before i forget.. oneironauts are those who lucid dream.. from my research during e last week, i found tt there's actually quite a wealth of information on e topic of dream control.. and it's quite a pleasant surprise too..

looking through some of e threads in e forum, i think tt my level of competency is above average.. same goes for e variety and depth of stunts tt i've attempted.. many of e posts were insightful and quite a few were funny or provided fresh perspectives on certain stuff.. perhaps u might remember that i'm not very good at summoning things.. and this forumer came out with quite a wacky suggestion as to how about going around to it.. "reach in your pocket grab a pokeball and throw it and say "i choose you "" " then they will come out the ball" lol.. maybe i should try it some day..

and there was this forumer who had e same experience as me regarding e stoppage of time in his post in e thread Your top 5 lucid accomplishments? "Stop time. Can be tricky, as there are usual a few DCs who ignore you. The trick is to just ignore what they're doing until they stop. For example, if you're fighting them and then stop time, and they continue to attack you, just tell them that they can't do that because time has been stopped. They generally go "Oh," and freeze." Note: DC stands for dream construct.. or more simply put, characters in your dream..

hmmm.. so it's almost 2 months since i last blogged.. v long absence indeed.. which den probably suggest tt this post is gonna be v v long..

busy with internship lately.. quite some couple of OT along the way.. or maybe tt's kind of an understatement.. i last counted it to be around 1,100 minutes of OT.. and unclaimable at tt too.. not to say tt there weren't e slack moments.. was pretty much a boring last 2 weeks for me.. nothing much to do quite often.. guess i have some stuff which i would like to blog about at this time, but of which it is not wise to.. so i'll leave it till some other time.. if ever tt is.. haha..

been going out with e uni gang every fri during this PA.. and we played pool almost every week.. of course wat came out of it had only been increased expenses.. which isn't really something good, considering tt i've yet to treat bra for a birthday treat and my family for getting my 1st pay check..

i guess not a lot of ppl actually keep detailed accounts of their spending patterns, so maybe e following info might be interesting to know.. i've been keeping accounts since sec school (there were breaks in between when i didn't though) and having just analysed my last 12 months of expenditure, e breakdown of my expenses over e period is: 44.57% on all food costs, 34.60% on transportation, 5.87% on entertainment and ahah! 13.47% on academic costs (mainly textbooks).. spend on average $168.33/month, although recent months have seen e figure to be around $200-$250.. and tt's considering tt i dun pay my own phone bills ($15+) and tt i have meals at home quite quite often..

it's lucky tt i press e publish post button often enough, cos blogger screwed up just now when i pressed e button again.. only had to retype a few lines of stuff.. costs have been soaring these past year and in particular this few months, with oil prices hitting $146/barrel.. totally crazy.. we are just too dependent on oil.. and if i weren't wrong, blair suggested tt e world should build many many more nuclear plants (forgot e number tt he mentioned) so as to meet e energy demand.. now tt as i grow older and become more sensitive to stuff like politics, i wonder if some leaders and ministers actually think through their stuff before they speak..

as it is, e world today doesn't seem to be in a pretty good shape and i seriously won't be surprised if e next world war breaks out over soaring inflation/oil prices/worsening climate conditions during our generation.. something not v pleasant to think abt..

most probably u would have already heard abt e jarring security lapses tt happened here in e past half year.. starting with e mas selamat escape from e detention centre, followed by e sub court escape and finally e passport blunder.. admittedly i dun follow e news tt zealously, but if i'm not wrong i dun think any ppl high up in e office concerned got axed off for e events.. which if true, and in my opinion, is quite wtf, considering tt all e security lapses are quite serious breaches..

coming to more not-so-serious stuff.. have been playing dota and maple lately.. well as usual.. like duh.. managed to lvl up to 82 just a few days ago.. now somewhat getting bored with maple, cos all my characters are at stages where it's either hard to train or lazy to train.. still trying to save up for my little riding pig.. and oh ya.. pangya is shutting down.. not exactly unexpected, given tt it's business model wasn't really viable to begin with.. sad to see it go though, having played it since day 2 of its launch..

just remembered that w3 patch 1.22 was out recently.. patching w3 has always been a mini "nerve-wrecking" experience because i dread e feeling tt e patch would go all wrong and i have to reinstall e whole game.. anyway i successfully managed to patch it after all..

watched kungfu panda and don't mess with the zohan.. e former was ok.. although e fun parts of e movie have been pretty much shown in e trailers and making-of TV show.. as such there's really not much incentive for one to actually watch e real full length thing.. e latter movie is a very lame, sexually dumb show (senseless sex jokes, many boobs and wat not.. well u get e idea..).. my personal opinion is tt both movies are not worth e time watching..

i visit e stomp site once every now and den and from wat i can see, e mrt is really not a safe place to be in.. u nv know who is snapping u.. for all u know u could land up at e website for PDA or more commonly seen, not giving up your seat to needy people..

and talking about mrt, there's a "go green and take public transport" campaign lately.. quite dumb actually, if u ask me.. dunnoe which smart alek came up with this.. e person most prob nv tried taking e peak hour train or bus before.. totally gay.. e crowd tt u see on e trains.. i think it won't be too long before we match up to japan's sandwichness.. just e other day, i went to my client's place at raffles city and e morning crowd was like wtf.. looks like a whole pack of sheep being gathered up by sheep wolves.. just tt there isn't any in this case.. and i thought e situation at tanjong pagar was quite bad..

erm ok.. so my point actually is tt it would make much more sense if e infrastructure is there (ie. e circle line is completed and running (at e very least)) before embarking on such a campaign.. wat u have now is a less-than-desirable infrastructure and u're asking more ppl to come make it worse.. -.-

so today (7 july) i was reading e chinese paper and e headline splashed across e front page was proclaiming tt e above-mentioned campaign was a success.. yah yah.. give me a reason to believe tt it won't be so.. even without the campaign, rising oil prices, increased number of ERP sentries, charges and operation hours, together with rising cab fees and talk of even further hikes to e fee through a fuel surcharge, did anyone with a brain seriously think tt e number of ppl taking public transport would remain as it is? duh..

not sure y it is e case but it might very well be a spurious relationship.. as mentioned some posts ago.. i was talking to meiwen on msn.. she mentioned tt she was planning to attend a talk organised for interested teachers-to-be and was considering to be a teacher somewhere in e future.. (on a sidenote: she's going to KPMG to work.. hmmmm..) as a coincidence, another accountancy intern mate of mine expressed e same thoughts.. and including me, it's 3 accountancy students who have given serious thoughts about becoming teachers in e future..

heard a nice old song on 93.3 some days back.. it's 我想有个家 by 潘美辰.. subsequently commented to my friend tt i was putting it in replay mode and he said tt it gets a bit boring after listening to it for a few times.. i guess i like to look at a song from its different aspects.. having composed my own lyrics i think i have had a greater interest in how e songs are actually packaged.. from e way e lyrics are written, their literal, hidden, historical, cultural and societal meanings, e melody, y certain instruments were chosen, e arrangement of e music, how e mv is shot, y certain scenes are chosen for e mv, e singer's emotions and of course his voice.. there are probably some other things which i left out, but replaying e song really allows to understand and appreciate e song better.. in this case, i thought tt e lyrics were particularly well written and tt e following sentences from e song were quite meaningful and food for thought: 虽然你有家 什么也不缺

so yup.. like wat i've said earlier, have been playing much pool lately.. so i went to youtube to look for some tips on masse and jump shots.. found e following cool videos of pro shots.. Fast Larry's Two Table Pool Trick Shot and trick shot worldrecord jump shot challange.. subsequently went to try out e masse shot and short distance jump shot.. the players in e videos seriously make e shots look easier than they seem.. could manage to curve my ball a little though.. but should have tried doing it along e length of e table instead, so tt e effect can be more visible..

and yes.. to my favourite portion of e post.. on dream control.. haha.. i think i've mentioned about attempting to do e flash jump in a previous post.. or those kind of jumps tt u see in e movie jumper.. managed to do a few of those in succession.. nothing really special i think.. i still prefer simple plain old teleportation.. nevertheless, i got another 1st in dream control some time this week or last when i ran through a wall.. haha.. and e experience was rather interesting..

my 1st attempt was not well prepared.. had a short run up to e wall, only to put on my brakes when i approached it.. wasn't ready to do e stunt.. and so on e 2nd attempt, i had myself a longer run up to e wall and gain e momentum needed to pass through e wall.. in most of my stunts, e "before and after" effects are usually very distinct and only milliseconds apart, with no apparent transitions.. but during this time's particular stunt, i was passing through e wall, with my right leg already on e other side of e wall, when i looked at my surroundings.. it was actually loading! as in u know wat happens when yr laggy com loads a different picture from e current one tt u are viewing? e old picture would stay there while e new picture, bit by bit, takes over e space of e old picture.. tt was wat exactly happened in my dreams! rather bewildering stuff..

and e stunt of passing through a wall is rather exciting too.. perhaps comparable to e stunt of jumping off a building ledge.. think i might just try running through a wall again sometime soon..

with this i end e longest post in this bloggie at 1,838 words.. hopefully my PA report can be of this length also.. haiz.. dun have e slightest idea how i can even squeeze out 1,000 words for it..

so i guess i finally have time to settle down and blog about my recent trip to hokkaido.. had actually written down a few short 'real time' posts in my little notebook which i had wanted to transfer here.. but dun think i'll be doing it.. will be blogging based on my memory and e notes tt i've jotted down instead.. most prob will be using one post to cover each day of e trip.. will be taking me quite a while to finish blogging about e whole trip and e posts would be constantly updated as i remember any stuff along e way..

for a sidetrack, was quite pleasantly surprised to see meiwen initiate a conversation in msn yesterday.. haven talked to her in a long time.. i feel such small acts can really sometimes show someone tt u really care abt him/her.. girls our age are now preparing to step out into e corporate world.. and just not too long ago we were laughing away, pretty much leading a care free school life together.. time passes fast..

just tommorrow i'll be starting on my own mini corporate adventure with my PA.. dunnoe y but somehow i have this feeling of dread..

in this post and e next few, it would be e 1st time u see me using 3 different languages within a single post..

so to start things proper, my account of e trip can actually be quite technical at certain parts.. but hey! there's gonna be pictures.. some background info: this particular trip was done with SA tours, with George as our tour guide.. and hmmm.. he's a freelance tour guide specialising in japan and also a part time cabby in sg.. now tt's prob 2 of e most conversational occupations u can have.. and rolled into 1 person.. geez.. haven used e jap language bar for a long time.. now i cant find a feature tt i need.. will continue with this post another day.. in e meanwhile i'll play around with e language bar..
